Someone who fought against the scarheads even harder than the fighter pilots he loves so much. Someone who was willing to sacrifice himself because he knew it was the right thing to do, even though he wasn't sure what he'd be dying for. Someone who was a spy and a traitor, but tried so hard and won in the end. Someone who knew he didn't have to fight again, but did, because he thought -- he only thought -- that people he didn't know might die if he didn't.

They called him a monkey-lizard on Borleias, and people didn't trust him, because they didn't know how he'd fought against the Yuuzhan Vong. But even when people said things about him, he was still friendly, still nice and good, honest and selfless.

Tam Elgrin took Tarc under his wing, taught him not just about holocams, but about life. He taught him -- sometimes without meaning to -- that being fundamentally good was more rewarding than lying and cheating and sneaking, even if you were poorer because of it. Tam can always make people feel better, and Tarc only knows how to upset people.

Tam is brave and honest and nice, and a brilliant holocam operator on top of that, the best in the galaxy. He's everything Tarc wants to be when he's older, everything he tries -- sometimes -- to be now. He's Tarc's role model, even if he doesn't know it. Tarc'll even risk being called a monkey-lizard, so long as he knows that he's just like Tam.
